Error message when I try to open Word 2000

Every time I try to open word on my computer I get the error message "Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close."

The following information comes up with the message: AppName: winword.exe, AppVer: 9.0.0.8216, ModName: winword.exe, ModVer: 9.0.0.8216, Offset: 0039f580.

I've tried a few things to try to fix the problem, including removing and reinstalling Office, but no luck so far. Any advice on how to repair this problem?
