Error message when running report with dates that actually have data in table

I have encountered a problem with a report in a database
that I designed. The report is based upon a query - which
is setup to Sum most of the data, give me the Max on one
item - and to Group by 3 other items. When I run the
query (or the report) with dates that have zeros for the
data - it displays OK. When I run the query (or report)
with dates that generate actual numbers - it gives me the
following error message and will not display the
results: "This expression is typed incorrectly, or is too
complex to be evaluated. For example, a numeric
expression may contain too many complicated elements. Try
simplifying the expression by assigning parts of the
expression to variables."

Can someone tell me what it is telling me - I assume that
once it gets some real numbers to try and sum, max, etc
that it gets lost - but what it is telling me to do to fix
it?

Would appreciate being pointed in the correct direction...
thanks!
