Error message when saving a .doc

A

aaaHi

This is the complete error message I get when I try to save a file.
Other files in this folder work fine.

"A file error has occurred. Check your network connections or make sure
the disk is properly inserted and not defective."

(the file name is in brackets at the end)

Using the latest OSX with Word 11.2 in Office 2004.

I've never had this happen before. The only way I can save my work is
to copy it to a new document.

Are you attempting to save to some sort of removable device? If so, it
is strongly recommended that you _not_ do so. Always use a hard drive
for working purposes & copy/move the files to a removable for transport
or backup only.

If this isn't the problem, please provide any additional detail you can
(is there a netwoork drive involved, etc.).

No - saving on the hard drive.

I use only 1 hard drive on this system. About once a week a plug in
another hard drive to back up everything. I haven't backed everything
up in several days. This just started happening today.

This will happen for a variety of reasons. The LEAST likely is that a disk
read error or a disk write error occurs at the time of saving. However, it
can happen, and I suspect it has happened to you.

When you saved the file to a new document, you released the bad file (Word
can have more than 20 different files open while you are working on a
document: any one of them can cause this error if it goes bad).

Mac OS X includes a facility known as "Journaling" to try to prevent this
error. For more information, see "Using journaling to safeguard your
information" in the Mac Help.

Cheers
