Error message when saving changes to an appointment

Dear Outlook gurus,

We are using Outlook 2003, and one of our staff regularly gets an error as
follows when she attempts to save edits to an appointment in her manager's
calendar, "The item cannot be saved because it has been changed by another
user or is open in another window. Do you want to make a copy in the default
folder for the item?"

We've checked that no-one else has it open and it's not open in another
window ... it happens sporadically and ironically, when she exits, it appears
the change has been saved as she gets acceptances back from people who
received the amended invitation.

Does anyone have any idea why this error is occurring ... ?
