Error message when trying to open a doc file.

Hi all,
I have a user here that has Word 2003 on an XP machine and they are
trying to open up a word document that has been made with an earlier version
of Word. I have re-installed the converter components but it is still
displaying this error message each time we try to open one of these older
docs "The selected text converter is an old version which does not work with
the current version of word. Reinstall the converter and try again. "
Is this a known bug and if so what can I do about it ?
Any advice that anyone can offer is apreciated.

How much older a version? Anything created with Word 97 or later should open
without any conversion required.

I am having the same problem, if you find out how to open the older
documents could you please let mer know?
