Error message when trying to update a Word 2007 compatability pack

I get this error message whenever I try to download the Word 2007
compatablity pack - "expected version of the product not found on the system".
I recently added Microsoft Office 2007 and still have Microsoft Office 2003
on my system. I am running Windows XP. Help please anyone.

I am unsure if this is the same error I have. I had Office 2003 and recently
installed Office 2007. When two updates failed with an error message that
Office 2003 was not installed, I checked that "Add/Remove Programs" did not
say there was an Office 2003.

Specifically, I am attempting patches KB951944 and KB954326. The error
message that is presented at failure says:

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 is not installed on the machine.
Setup can not continue

In looking at the MS08-055 security bulletin, it appears that different
files are updated for the various product versions, and I don't know how to
make the Automatic Updates ignore the Office 2003, because it is no longer
there.

Ok, I have determined more information. It appears to be related to having
installed "Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system". This pack, I am
unable to remove because I no longer have Office 2003. And it is causing me
to be unable to install these updates to Office 2007. Is there anyone with
advice on how to remove this compatibility pack when it is no longer being
used?
