Error Message: "Windows Installer:: The patch cannot be found...."

I am running word 2000 on Windows xp. Word 2000 is no
longer working properly. I cannot repair, uninstall,
reinstall, or update word. (Neither can I restore my
computer to an earlier date.) When I try I get a message
that windows installer cannot find the patch... I have
windows installer 2.0.

Evidently, I am missing some .msp files. Suggestions
please!
