I see. Yes, that's much more clear.
There are several problems here. First, Outlook 97 is so outdated that it
has no ability to import Contacts directly from Outlook Express. Second,
Outlook does not use a separate Address Book. It uses a Contacts Folder, so
you add your Contact information there. The Address Book is merely a view of
the electronic addresses contained in your Contact Record. To use the
Outlook Address Book, you must have the Outlook Address Book Service
installed in Outlook and connected to your Contacts Folder.
Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder. Restart Outlook for the changes to take effect.
If all your Contacts are currently in Outlook Express, you may be able to
export them to a file type that Outlook 97 can import. All importing is done
into Outlook, not the Address Book view. First go to Outlook 97 > File >
Import and Export > Import from a file. There you will see the file types
from which Outlook 97 can import. Then go to Outlook Express > File > Export
Address Book... and see if you can export to a file
type that Outlook 97
can import. Usually a CSV file will work.

I'm sorry I wasn't more precise. As I'm sure you guessed
by now I'm a novice and was looking here for some help.
I'll try to explain.
I use Comcast Cable and their Homepage. They use Microsoft
Outlook Express Version 6.0.2800.1123 for email. This is
where I have my address book set up. I'm sure it's in the
C Drive somewhere but don't know where to find it. I tried
the import/export for that address book from Outlook 97
but am not savvy enough to do it. So I tried to enter
them, my email contacts addresses, into the Outlook 97
Address Book manually. The steps I took are:
*On the Toolbar I clicked on the Address Book Icon
*That brought up the Address Book where you can select
either to enter names into the Contacts or Outlook Address
Book.
*Then I selected the Icon for "New Entry"
*When I click on that I get the New Entry dialogue box
with a message inside the box saying "You cannot create
entries in this address book"
*That's about it and is clear as I can explain it. I'm
sorry to hear Office Professional 97 is so outdated. I
really like it.
Thanks for your reply

"Other address book?" What is that? How are we supposed to know to what you
are referring?
Outlook 97? Do you realize that program is so outdated
it
is no longer
supported?
The steps you are using are unclear. Please list them more precisely.

I just set up Microsoft Outlook for my mail. I had been
using Outlook Express with Internet Explorer 6
I got everything working ok except when I went to manually
add contacts from my other address book I get a message
when I click "new contact" in the Contacts. The
message
is:
"You can not create entries for this address book".
How stupid is this? It's my computer.
I'm using the Microsoft Outlook that comes with
Office
Pro
97
Thanks for advance for the help.
Could you please send a quick email so I know when/if
there's a reply.
Jerry
