I recently purchased word 2003. I keep getting an error
message stating:compile error in hidden module: main. How
do I fix this? Help. Thanks in advance.

It means you have an add-in with some code that is malfunctioning. Add-ins
are not supplied as part of Word, but as part of other applications that
link to Word, such as Acrobat, MYOB, and many others. If you weren't getting
this problem before, chances are the add-in was written for earlier versions
of Word and doesn't like W2003. The quick fix is to delete the add-in; or
refer back to whoever supplied it.

Jezebel, thanks for your response. I'm not sure what I
should do next. Is there a way I can determine which
program is causing the problem? Thanks for your help.

Easily. Find the folder containing the add-ins (it's listed in Tools >
Options > File locations. On my computer it's C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\Startup.)

Any .dot file in the startup folder is loaded as an add-in when Word starts.
Close Word, change the first add-in'd filename to [Name].$$$, restart Word.
If the problem has gone, that's your culprit. Otherwise, change the
extension back to .dot and try the next add-in.
