Error messages in Office 2003

Kenny Goodson

I have two questions related to Office 2003.

1) I received a Excel spreadsheet as an attachment in
Outlook. I double-clicked the attachment to open it in
Excel and since then have gotten an error message--
"Compile error in hidden module: AutoExecNew". I also get
a similar error message when I exit. Excel seems to work
normally but it is annoying. Later, I tried the same
thing with a Word document and now Word also gives me the
same error message when opening and exiting. I have
tried "Detect and Repair", reinstalling Office, searched
the Knowledge Base and deleting Normal.dot. Nothing seems
to work and I cannot find a macro to delete. Any
suggestions?

2) When I open an Access database, I get a message about
unsafe expressions and it mentions downloading the update
to the Jet database. I downloaded the update today but I
still get the same message. Again, any insights,
suggestions, etc. are welcome.

Kenny:

The compile error is 99.9% likely due to the fact that you have older
versions of the Adobe PDF maker Wizards loaded. (The auto exec new is one
of their VBA routines.)

To resolve go to the folder where Office is installed and below the
directory Office 11, you'll see two sub-directories

1.) XLStart (where XL add ins are stored) likely has a file called PDFMaker
in the folder. Delete the file to resolve the issue in XL
2.) The folder StartUp is where Word Add ins are stored and it likely has a
file called PDFMaker.dot in it. Again, delete that file and you should be
OK.

Then you can check with Adobe's web to see if they have updated versions of
the PDF Maker add ins for your version of Acrobat.
