error messages OE 6

I have windows XP and have been using outlook express 6 for some time now.
Recently, when I open my OE and double clicked on a message, I receive an
error message indicating "there was an error opening this message An error
has occurred". Also, if I click to open the address book I get the following
message "Unable to open the address book. The address book may not be
installed properly". I have no idea what has happened or how to fix it. I
have searched on this site and many of the suggestions are for Windows 2000
or 98 and do not address XP. Help would be appreciated!
