Error: Microsoft Office 2000 sr1 Update did not complete successfully. For
assitance contact microsoft technical support.
If your getting this error, so are a lot of people like me who invested in
office 2000 back in 2000, and it works just fine, so no reason to buy the new
one. I've gone through about 5 computers since then, but the software works
fine and it really, really, really, really pi$$es me off that microsoft has
purposely removed the first file required to update the office 2000 system.
The file they have put on as sr1a will not work, unless you already have done
sr1. They do not provide sr1 anymore, so your screwed like i was until i
found it from another source. after sr1 is installed, the rest that
microsoft provides will work fine, but, you have to have this one first. I
might be wrong about the exact reasoning and flow of the updates, but suffice
to say that you cannot proceed without this one, and afterwards, you can get
the rest of the updates from the office update page on microsofts site.
For those of you looking for the full sp1 it is at this link:
http://www.filewatcher.com/m/O2KSR1aDL.EXE.53816504.0.0.html
Apparently its been taken down at some other locations. If this is taken
down sometime in the future, feel free to email me at ryan mitton at gmail
dot com (no spaces anywhere) and i will gladly upload it to usendit.com and
email you the link.
As a young, entrepreneurial businessperson who is trying to build a business
that serves his customers to the best of its ability, I find this purposeful
removal of the initial sr1 update which is required to then update to sr1a
and beyond, to be childish, and disrespectful by microsoft. I pay for all my
software, I bought office 2000 with my money when i was 26 and starting my
business. (you will need your original cd to run this btw). Because i pay
for my software, i make it work for me for as long as possible. I don't need
extra bells and whistles, I need a solid spreadsheet program and a solid word
processing program. I had my brother design me a database in act for my
business, and it works excellently. There is no reason for me to upgrade my
office suite.
Microsoft, I can understand that as a company, you will always strive to
update and improve your products, and that you need new customers for
cashflow, I get that. I'm not asking that you take more time and energy to
supply NEW updates to old programs like office 2000, but the fact that you
are holding BACK a key update that you have already developed, which
purposely inhibits users to be able to continue using the software they have
purchased from you, speaks very very very poorly of your organization. You
could have left it available. You have the server space, and the bandwidth.
You must be aware that it appears as manipulation to get people like me to
spend more money on new software that does not offer any added value to users
like me.
Whatever your reason may have truly been for removing this integral update
(without it, you cannot proceed to the rest, which you have left available on
your update page), you should by now realize that it LOOKS like your trying
to force customers to spend more and buy your new products, even when they
simply don't need them.
I would like to thank Mr. Rick Sparks.
Respectfully (though I ask you if you think you deserve it?),
Ryan Mitton.
