Error - Microsoft Office Word has stopped working

I have Office 2007 installed and whenever I try to close a Word 2003 document
it errors with 'Microsoft Office Word has stopped working' and 'A problem
caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program
and notify you if a solution is available'. I have not noticed this problem
with Word 2007 documents or any version of Excel or Powerpoint.

Any ideas what might be causing this and how to properly troubleshoot and
resolve it?

I'm still experiencing the problem since I first posted this last week. The
same exact documents open and close fine in Word 2003. Any and all help
would be most appreciated.

I too am having the same problems with WORD and EXCEL as described below by
Paul D. Effectively after I close either program using the normal procedure
(exit...), the program responds telling me that the program has stopped
working...! That is exactly what I would expect having just closed it ---
WHY is it giving me an error message to this effect?
I have looked at the link below, but not found an answer in it.
