Error Msg OL2002 changing a recurrent appointment

Sometimes users are getting an Error message when changing
an occurance of a reoccuring item:
Cannot locate the recurrence information for "<appntname>"
Then either it does update anyway or the entire
reoccurances become corrupt and have to be recreated.
Whats up??
