error msg when opening documents in word and excell

I receive the following error message when opening documents in either word
and excell.
A document with the name "Whatever.xls" is already open. You cannot open two
documents with the same name even if the documents are in different
folders...

I can just disregard the message and everything seems fine. I just don't
understand what is causing the message.

Hi, Greek. If you are running Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling
the Office Plugin that comes with it. See

How are you opening the files? If you are opening the files outside
the application (other than using File/Open) then it sounds like the
file associations need to be recreated.

To recreate the file associations go to Start/Run and run the
following:

winword /r
excel /regserver

Note the space before the forward slash.
