Hi,

I'm trying to configure Outlook to work with my new mail server. I've got
the outgoing and incoming mail servers
configured correctly, and everything seems fine there. I
can recieve e-mails fine. But I cannot send them for some reason. Here is
the error I recieve when trying to send an e-mail:


"The message could not be sent because the server rejected
the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address
was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test',
Account: 'pop.1and1.com', Server: 'smtp.1and1.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 Authentication
required', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530,
Error Number: 0x800CCC78"


Does anyone know what the problem could be? Does it have
nothing to do with Outlook and something to do with my
mail server?

I'd appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance.

Mark,
I am having this same problem. I've talked to SBC/DSL
Tech Support because I thought it might be their issue,
but it appears to be an Outlook issue.

My settings are correct (according to them), but the
error I receive says "Unable to send the message. Please
verify the email address in your account properties." To
make matters worse, it worked once today, but now it has
stopped working again.

Sounds like Outgoing server authentication is not turned on. Here's how to fix it in Outlook 2002/2003:

1) Go to Tools menu > E-mail Accounts.
2) Select View or change existing e-mail accounts, then hit Next.
3) Select the proper account from the list then hit Change.
4) Hit the More Settings buttom at the bottom right of the POP3 Settings screen.
5) Select the Outgoing Server tab
6) Check with your ISP, but typical settings for this tab are as follows:
- My Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
- Use the same settings as my incoming mail server
