Error: "object is corrupt or is no longer available"

I have a Word 2003 technical document that has quite a few linked objects.
Everything was working fine, but now when I open the main document and it
askes if I want to update all of the links, it just runs right through
without updating any links. I tried to update the link manually and I get
the error "This object is corrupt or is no longer available". I checked and
the document object is there and in the correct directory, but even when I
try the tools --> Links option, it will NOT update the object correctly. I
end up having to delete the object and re-inserting it. Is there a way to
fix this??? I have over 200 objects that are in trouble!

Thanks

The version of Symantec that I am using is version 10.1.4.4010. I tried what
you stated and none of the options fit..... I looked for the last option
that there was described and didn't find the file that they were talking
about.... Any other suggestions???

Thanks.

Did you rtfm that comes with Symantec 10.1.4.4010??? Is that one of the
Corporate Edition versions of Symantec??? If yes, did you talk to your
company's computer support staff about the problem??? Symantec
Corporate Edition does not come with an officeav.dll file, but
officeav.dll could be a remnant of a previous version of Norton AV that
may have been on your computer before you got Symantec Corporate
Edition. officeav.dll is a hidden file in some versions of Norton AV,
so if you used Windows Explorer or My Computer to look for that file,
you should include hidden and system files in the search options.

Yep, did search for hidden files and yes it is a corp version of symantec.
Yes I did ask about it and they stated that it should not affect since they
have it set up without that option turned on. Also, I have copied that
directory to my personal pc and I am NOT running norton at all, and it still
has that problem. Is there a way to fix that document, or do I have to
recreate the whole thing???

Thanks for helping.

Links in Word can be quite fragile. They rely on absolute paths, meaning
NOTHING can change in your directory structure (no renaming/moving folders),
lest they break.

Are you 100% sure that files referenced have not moved? Have any
intermediate directories been renamed or moved? Has the drive letter
changed? Are they on a network drive that has been remapped?

If the path to the file is correct, try saving the file under a new name, as
a Word XML file.

All of the files are in there own directory.... So yes, they are ALL
there.....

I tried doing the saving as a xml and the links did NOT work there either...
