Error on changing User Account

Terry Montgomery

Greetings,

I have a user set up in the Enterprise Pool. Somehow this user was orginally
set up in PWA with Project Server Authentication. The default is Windows
Authentication. I attempted to change this user account via Modify User and
selecting Windows Authentication. I then added his Active Directory Windows
user account login and their email address. I made no other changes. When I
tried to save the change I get the following error: "Microsoft Windows NT
Account already exist in the database."
This user is not presently assigned any tasks on projects. Is there a
workaround for this error or do I have to delete the user and start over?
Thanks,

Create a new blank project and enter the resource in the Resource Sheet
view. Make sure you name them identically to the user account already in
PWA. Add their Windows User Account information as well. Save the project
as an .mpp file. Import the resource into Project Server using the Import
Resources wizard (Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Resource to
Enterprise). The system will ask you to match up the resource in the
project with the user account in PWA. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for the input. I tried your technique. When I get to the stage in the
import process where I pick the one resource I get another error message that
tells me that this resource already exists in the database so pick another
resource or rename the resource. I am doing this within Project Professional.
So I have to report it did not work. What would you suggest?
Thanks,

When I read your original message, I assumed you had created a user account
in PWA without a matching resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool. As I
re-read your original message and then read your latest message, it appears
my assumption was incorrect. For that I apologize if I have wasted any of
your time.

The error message you quoted in your original post would indicate that the
Windows User Account is already in use by another resource in your
Enterprise Resource Pool, or by another user account in PWA. To determine
if any resource has this account already, open your Enterprise Resource
Pool, check out all resources, and then add the Windows User Account to the
right of the Resource Name column. Click Edit - Find and search for the
Windows account in question. When you find it, remove or correct the
Windows account for that user. Hope this helps.
