error on opening Word 2003

when Word opens I get a message that it can't because there is an open
dialog box.

I can't find anything open other than a few programs.

if I close a program - it opens, if I click the error box off - it
opens, if I do nothing - it opens.
but it will open (veerrryy sllooowwwllly).

I just did a clean install of XP and reinstalled Word.

where to look???

Have you tried deleting your normal.dot. Word will create a new one
when you open it. If you have items in your existing normal.dot which
you need to keep, like macros, styles, autotext then it might be worth
renaming it instead of deleting it.
