error opening an old works program with excel

I use to have works and created a spreadsheet. I now own
Office XP. I have used this file for over 2 yrs.; all of
a sudden I cannot open the file with excel it gives me
this error: XML PARSE ERROR: Missing end-tag
Error occurs at or below this element stack:
<ss:Workbook>
<ss:Worksheet>
<ss:Table>
<ss:Row>



How do I open this or recover the information that this
file contains. Please Help!!!!!!
