Error opening Excel attachment in Outlook 2000

Trying to open an Excel 97 attachment within Outlook 2000
Receiving "Error opening file" message

Excel file opening fine when saving the file.

Note: Option to "Ignore Other Applications" has been
cleared in Excel

have you tried deleting your temp file? To locate yours open regedit and
goto;
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Security]

Here there is a string-value called "OutlookSecureTempFolder" with a
location as a value. Copy this location and paste it in the addressbar of
Explorer (since you can't browse to it).

There might be some old temp-files interfering with your Excel sheet
