Error opening MDE file

Hi All,

I received an mde file created in access97 and when I try
to open in access2002 it gives a saying:
"You can't convert or enable an MDE file".

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

When you open an eariler version you have 2 options: Open
or convert. MDE files are 'locked' versions of a MDB file
that allows you to make data changes but no structure
changes. Infact it locks you out from even seeing the
design or code. When you try to either convert or open
(enable) the database you have to make changes to the
original in a new copy but the MDE is locked so it will
not allow. Unfortunantely, even the original developer
cannot revert a MDE back to a MDB and there are no
utilities to help. That is when you should always keep the
original MDB as the source code. You will have to find the
original MDE file.
