Error opening old version files

Dear,

In word XP when I try open files of old version of word
(97 for example)I receive an erros message "MS Word
signature error"

AppName? winword.exe
AppVer: 10.0.4524.0
ModVer: 7.0.0.27
ModName: mssp3pb.dll

And It is impossible open the files. How can I solve this
problem ?

The problem seems to be in your spell checker. You might therefore ask your
question in the microsoft.public.word.spelling.grammar NG. Or you could turn
off "Check spelling as you type" before trying to open the files.
