Error Opening Site Online

E

Earl Partridge

FP 2000, Windows XP, IE 6
When opening a site online with FP, I get an error "Microsoft Frontpage Application File
has encountered a problem and needs to close". This error pops up immediately after
being connected, and before any page can be opened. This site resides on the same
server as another of my sites at this host, the other site does not cause this error.

I recently upgraded IE6 to IE7 and thought that might be the problem, can't say for
sure whether this happened prior to IE7 or not. I un-installed IE7, now back to IE6
and still same problem. I also re-published all mages to this site.

Ask your host to run a repair and health check on the FP SE for that site
- also make sure you have deleted all FP Temp/Cache files before opening it again in FP
See http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm

I did the FP Clean of temp/cache files. My host did a "recalculate
Hyperlinks".
Is that the same as your "repair and health check"? I have deleted all the
files/pages from the host and re-published from FP. When I attempt to open
that site, after clicking the URL, I see the files/pages listed momentarily
before getting that error. That seems to tell me that I am connected, and
makes me think that my FP is not the culprit.

You probably don't need it but I posted the error notice on a web page...

No Recalculating Hyperlinks is not the same as run Server Health Check.

Suggest you do a repair to your installation of FP.

Recalculate Hyperlinks is *not* the same as "repair and health check".

I also have done that FP Repair. I'm thinking about Removing FP and
reinstalling from scratch.

That might be your best bet. After you remove it, download CCleaner at
www.ccleaner.com and let it run and clean up any leftover registry entries
and junk that may have gotten left behind, reboot then re-install.

I removed FP, I ran CCleaner but unchecked Cookies and History.
Rebooted, reinstalled FP. Same Error. I installed FP on another machine,
and opened that site without getting the error. I guess this confirms that
there is definitely something on my primary machine that's causing the
error.
Cookies or History???

Another thing I noticed after re-installing, when I went to open the online

all my previous entries still showed in the drop-down menu. I would have
thought they would have been wiped out either from the Remove or from
the CCleaner.
