Error opening Visio 2000 documents with Visio 2003

Error message "visio internal error #2424 action 1283 open
file" - first try closing and re-opening hte file, next
restart visio.
When opening a visio 2000 file the above error occurs.
Tried closing / reopening, even uninstall & re-install.

Files work fine in Visio 2000.
Any help would be appreciated
