Error opening Web from within Word

Whenever I try to open a web folder (http://www.
[mysite].com) I get the error:

Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and
needs to close... Send, Don't Send etc..

Note: I've tried another WebServer and get the same
problem, (other clients work fine on these servers)
Problem is not user specific (anyone who logs onto this
machine gets it.) No other errors in any programs.

Machine is an otherwise excellent running Windows XP Pro
Laptop (made by Spartan)

What I've tried:
Detect and repair of Word,
Remove and reinstall Word.

All critical updates and office updates were installed.
I installed SP1 for Windows XP.

Only happens when opening a web, any help would be
greatly appreciated. (nothing in Event viewer other than
event ID 1000)
