Error opening word document shortcut

I am having a problem opening any word document
shortcut. This could be from an e-mail attachment or
from an icon for a word document in "My Documents"
folder. If I go into Word and then open the document
from insided Word, it works fine. The other way produces
an error, "An error occured in sending the command to the
applications." I would appreciate any help on this one.

Reregister Word in Windows by using Start, Run and typing in

winword /r

and pressing Enter. That should sort the problem.
