Error: Operation Must Use An Updateable Query

In Microsoft Office 2003 XP, I am running Microsoft Access 2003 SP2 and what
I'm trying to do is link to an Excel File and run a query that appends to the
Excel File. Unfortunately I keep getting this error: Operation Must Use An
Updateable Query. I'm not able to write to the Excel file.

If I do the exact same thing in Microsoft Access 2000, I don't get this error.

I went to the Macro Securtiy and changed it to Low, but that didn't seem to
help.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try next?

Hi -

According to what I have seen in this NG, versions of MS Access after
2000 cannot update Excel spreadsheets. It has something to do with some
sort of patent dispute. You'll have to use A2000 if you need to update
Excel files.

Do you know of any alternatives or web sites which can get around this
problem using VBA code?

No, but I haven't looked - I use A2000. I don't recall having seen any
references to a work-around.
