#error or #name? in text box

I have a report that I want to access two different ways, one by clicking on
a button on a form (the report gets it's data from the form and two
subforms), or by clicking a button on the switchboard to produce a blank
report so the user can manually fill out the report. When I press the report
button on the form, it works great. Data is filled out if it's available,
and the textbox is blank if there is no data to show. However, when I click
the button on the subform, I get #error or #name? in the fields instead of
blank fields. I have tried using IIF with HasData, IsNull, and IsError, but
nothing produces blank fields. Here is the control source currently for a
few of the fields on the report:

=[Forms]![Contacts]![Call Details Subform].[Form]![Notes]

=Forms!Contacts!Rank

=Forms!Contacts![Call Listing Subform].Form!CallDate

I made a work around by creating a new report with blank, unbound text boxes
that I can open from the switchboard. I just couldn't figure out how to get
the text boxes to show up blank if the required bound form wasn't open.
