Error: Responses in Outlook 2k

When attempting to Decline or Accept a meeting request,
Outlook freezes, hard disk pounds away, then Windows XP
states that Outlook encountered an error and shuts Outlook
down.

OS - WindowsXP
OutlookSetup - Exchange Server 5.5 with .pst storage on
local hard disk
Outlook version 2000 SR-1 SP-3

Any help appreciated.
