Error setting up outlook 2007 AND No mail icon in control panel!

While trying to connect a new installation of Outlook 2007 to our mail
server, I get this message:

"You cannot add a Microsoft Exchange account to this profile while Outlook
is running. Exit Outlook and use the Mail icon in the Control Panel to add a
Microsoft Exchange account."

Which is infuriating because I have no "Mail" icon in my control panel.

I'm running Windows XP professional x64 edition. I've had outlook 2002
installed previously, but have removed it. I have also uninstalled and
reinstalled the outlook 2007 client hoping it would help fix this. It has
not. Any ideas?

If you are viewing the Control Panel in Category View, look under User
Accounts and you will find the Mail applet there. Or switch to Classic view
and you'll get a lis of all the applets available in Control Panel.

You have to enable the 32 bit Control Panel before you'll see it.
Additional Options>View x86 Control Panel Icons or switch to the Classic
view and run the View x86 Control Panel Icons applet.

You sir, are the best! It was "hidden" under the "View x86 Control Panel
Icons" menu.

Unfortunately, the mail Icon did not appear to me when I did either of these
options. Brian Tillman got it right when he pointed out that it's an x86
control panel icon, which wasn't showing up in my control panel. Thank you
for trying to help though, I really appreciate it!

Ok so I see what to do, but there's no instruction on here on how to
do it?

How do I do that? Where do I go to get to Additional Options?

When I open up mine, there is a column on the right-hand side that has a
section called "See Also". In that section, there is an option called "View
x86 Control Panel Icons". When I click that, a window pops open that has
several new icons, one of which is Mail.
