Error- "The operating sys is not presently configured to run this

M

Mike R.

I am presently running Windows XP Home and have copied MS Office 2000 files
from my desktop PC to my wife's desktop in the program files directory. When
I try to open any application program such as Word I get the following error
message:
"The operating system is not presently configured to run this application."
Any suggestions on how to resolve this error would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Mike

You can't just copy the system files to get the program to work, you
need to properly install it.

However, be sure to read the license agreement, since...most
likely...it would be illegal if you installed your wife's copy on your
computer.

Try looking in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE1
for mso.dll. Look at the security for this file, set to inherit fro
above. We had this same problem, this fixed it.

You can also use secedit.exe to restore ntfs file permissions
