"Error! The Product Updates site failed to display."

I am running Office 2000 (using Windows 98). When I try
to scan for Office Updates from the Microsoft Office site,
I receive the message "Error! The Product Updates Site
failed to display."

Following Microsoft's suggestion, I retried it several
times. Having no luck, I added the site to my list
of "Trusted Sites" (although Office required me to
use "https" instead of "http" as MS instructed). I do not
have "Getright" installed, nor do I have an Administrator
to deal with: this is a stand-alone home computer.

Any ideas?
