Error! Unable to check updates on this Computer

I have an Office 2002 in my laptom. I installed 2002
Outlook. Afterwards, I am unable to update my Office from
the Microsoft Updates. I get the message Error" Unable to
check updates on this Computer. Windows installer patch
files (.MSP filels) from previously applied Office updates
are missing from the \Windows\Installer hidden directory
on your computer. I tried to Install and uninstall the
2002 outlook and it states "Installer patch cannot be
found". Help!
