Error when attempting to select E-mail Options

Working with Word 2000, if I click Tools, Options,
General tab and then try to select E-mail Options, I get
a message "There is insufficient memory or disk space.
Close extra windows, and save your work."

This occurs even if I have no other programs running
or "extra" windows open.

The problem occurs on two separate computers, one with
128 Mb of RAM and another with 256 Mb of RAM, both with
many gigabytes of free disk space.
