When I checked for Office updates off the website (I have office 2000) i get
an error checking. the screen shows this:

The Office Update site is currently experiencing some technical difficulties
and is unable to check for updates.

Click the Try Again link below to try loading the site again (do not use the
Refresh button on your browser to reload the site).

If problems persist, please contact Microsoft Support for assistance. You
can also search for Office updates in the Download Catalog.

i am wondering how to get around this and get updates

For this type of problem, try this :

It appears that the office update site requires the latest version of the
Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 ( version 5.6.0.8825 ) while the one currently
on your system maybe an earlier version or corrupted.

Download this from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/8/a/28a5a346-1be1-4049-b554-3bc5f3174353/scripten.exeAfter installing the above, go back to the office update site and check."aaron" <[email protected]> wrote in messageWhen I checked for Office updates off the website (I have office 2000) iget> an error checking. the screen shows this:>>> The Office Update site is currently experiencing some technicaldifficulties> and is unable to check for updates.>> Click the Try Again link below to try loading the site again (do not usethe> Refresh button on your browser to reload the site).>> If problems persist, please contact Microsoft Support for assistance. Thanks Terry. I followed you instructions but Office Update still would not
automatically run. I went to the Download Catalog and did the SP1 for Office
2003, rebooted and I still have the same problem.

Word will not cut and paste without running Installer each time, auto update
for Office will not run, and I can not convert WP to Word, rich text, or html
without an error from Installer.

This fix works only for those Office 2003 users who get the following error
message:

"The Office Update site is currently experiencing some technical
difficulties and is unable to check for updates. Click the Try Again link
below to try loading the site again. "

If you are receiving an error message other than the one above, then this
fix will probably not work.

After installing the above, go back to the office update site and
