error when closing a document

I just upgraded to word 2003 and I am ready to scream.

I need word to use for my job which I do all day. I type medical reports. I
first save the report as a txt file, (this is how the program for my place of
business gets the file), then for line count purposes, I have to save the
file again as a .doc.

Yes, I use tons of macros, auto corrects and auto texts. However, as I am
trying to close out of the document it is telling me that there is another
document open,,,THERE IS NOTHING ELSE RUNNING ON MY COMPUTER except out look
(I have tried to close outlook, but still it is not working).

I have rebooted, opened, closed, etc...NOTHING IS WORKING -

any help will be much appreciated

Hi, annie,

Could you post with the exact error that you are receiving when you close
the document?

Here is the sequence of events/errors, etc.

First I save the file as a txt file, then I do a Save as and save as a .doc.
Then I go to close the file and get this message:

"this file is in use by another application or user (C:\Documents and
Setting\...\Normal.dot) - so I press ok

Then a box opens up for the SAVe AS (and its set to save in Templates- file
name as normal.dot - and as a document template -
so I hit cancel -

is the path wrong?

NEVER MIND - I figured out the problem - As I said earlier, the only other
program I had open was Outlook for my email which runs continuously....

The new outlook automatically had Word as my editor, under tools, options. I
removed the checks, and VOILA everything appears to be working.

Oh the joys of upgrading
