Error when Editing a document in PWA

Starting to get errors from Team members when accessing Sharepoint documents
through PWA. When they use the pull down menu to edit a document in MS Word
they are receiving the following message: "Edit document requires a
Sharepoint Services compatible application and Microsoft IE 5.0 or greater"

Our standard corporate image uses Office 2000 and IE 5.0 or 6.0. Works fine
for most users with same MS applications installed, but not for some. Any
ideas?

Thanks

Chris:

The error is the expected behavior with Office 2000 when trying to edit in
the browser or create a new document. Uploading should work without errors.
Deploy Office XP or 2003 to end the errors.

Yes, I've heard this solution will solve a lot of these types of errors.
However, why does it seem to work ok with most machines that have Office 2000
and not for a handful of others.

Chris:

All of the machines running Office 2000 will experience some degradation of
features. Maybe some of your machines have Project 2002 installed, which is
an Office XP program, perhaps some of your other machines have other bits
and pieces of Office XP installed, which can explain non-uniformity.
