Error when inserting an Excel spreadsheet in Word 2003

When I try to insert a Excel spreadsheet (using the menu bar in Word), I
receive an error - "Microsoft Officed Word can't start the application
required t open this object. An error occurred adn this feature is no longer
fuctioning properly."

I am using XP Pro - Office 2003 Pro- I have reinstalled Office 2003 - same
error and I have tried to repair Office 2003 - same error. If I open Excel
2003 and Word 2003 - the Excel spreadsheet insertation into Word works
correctly.

Stumped. Any assistance is appreciated.
