Error When Inserting Headers in Beta 2 TR

C

Charles Allen

When I click the button to insert a header, I get the following message:

The Office Open XML file building blocks.dotx cannot be opened because there
are problems with the contents.

After I click OK the following message appears:

Word found unreadable content in Building Blocks.dotx. Do you want to
recover the contents of this document? If you trust the source of this
document, click Yes.

I click Yes and am able to enter the header information.

This happens every time.

Thank you for your quick response but this link is not working. When I
searched support.microsoft.com by article id, it did not pull up any results.

There are no documents that match your search for "925175"

Hmm. Works for me. I get an article entitled "Error message when you try to
use a gallery in Word 2007: 'The Office Open XML file Building Blocks.dotx
cannot be opened.'"

That's strange... I clicked the link below, and got the article titled
"Error message when you try to use a gallery in Word 2007: "The Office Open
XML file Building Blocks.dotx cannot be opened"."

Here's a copy of the Resolution section of the article:

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, try to copy the Building Blocks.dotx template in
the 2007 Microsoft Office Document Parts folder over the damaged copy of
Building Blocks.dotx template in the user data folders. You can also remove
both copies of the Building Blocks.dotx template and then repair 2007 Office
to restore the Building Blocks.dotx template.

Note When you rename the Building Blocks.dotx template, your Ribbon
galleries will be reset to their default contents. Therefore, we strongly
recommend that you not delete your Building Blocks.dotx template.

Method 1: Copy a new version of the template
To copy a new version of the template, follow these steps:

Note These steps are for the English version of Word 2007. Additionally,
these steps refer to the language ID 1033. Other languages will use a
different language ID. 1. Exit Word 2007.
2. Click Start, click Run, type ""%userprofile%\Application
Data\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033", and then click OK.
3. Right-click Building Blocks.dotx, and then click Rename.
4. Rename the file to Building Blocks.OLD.
5. Leave the Document Building Blocks\1033 folder open, click Start,
click Run, type "%programfiles%\Microsoft Office\Office12\Document
Parts\1033", and then click OK.
6. Right-click Building Blocks.dotx, and then click Copy.
7. Close the Document Parts\1033 folder.
8. In the Document Building Blocks\1033 folder, click Edit, and then
click Paste. A new copy of the Building Blocks.dotx is copied to the folder.

Method 2: Repair 2007 Office
To repair 2007 Office, follow these steps: 1. Exit all 2007 Office programs.
2. Click Start, click Run, type ""%userprofile%\Application
Data\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033", and then click OK.
3. Right-click Building Blocks.dotx, and then click Rename.
4. Rename the file to Building Blocks.OLD.
5. Click Start, click Run, type "%programfiles%\Microsoft
Office\Office12\Document Parts\1033", and then click OK.
6. Right-click Building Blocks.dotx, and then click Rename.
7. Rename the file to Building Blocks.OLD.
8. Close both folders.
9. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and the click OK.
10. In the Currently installed programs list, click the version of
2007 Office that is installed on the computer. Alternatively, click the
version of Word 2007 if you have the stand-alone version installed on the
computer.
11. Click Change, click Repair, and then click Continue.
