Error when inviting through 'Scheduling' tab

D

Dustin Cook

When one of our users generates Outlook calendar appointments and adds
invitees via the "Scheduling" tab of the appointment window, she
receives an error message when sending the invitation. The behavior does
not manifest if she adds invitees via the "Invite Attendees" button or
when creating a calendar item from a contact item.

Has anyone seen this before?

We are using Outlook 2003 SP3 on Windows XP SP3 connected to Exchange
Server 2003 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 SP2.

This is an example of the error message:

I am the administrator, and I'm at a loss to solve this error without
assistance. I would increase logging levels on the server to capture any
server-side error messages, but I'm not sure which category to raise.

One of our users started getting this error yesterday as well when sending
out meeting requests:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'Internal User' on 1/7/2009 2:55 PM
This message could not be sent. Try sending the message again
later, or contact your network administrator. Error is
[0x80070057-00000000-00000000].

If you are running in Exchange cached mode you can try the following:

Run the command Outlook /cleanprofile

If you get any errors or this does not resolve your issue recreate the users
OST file which is probably corrupt. To do this cruise over to
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook and rename the OST file to
OSTfileName.old, now go ahead and reopen Outlook.

Doing this will recreate the OST file which is a locally cached copy of the
users mailbox, more than likely this will resolve your issue of sending
meeting requests, at least that's how I solved the issue here at my office.

I also should have noted that the path I used to the OST file is on a Vista
box, if you are running XP it will be different location.

On Windows XP:
\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\%profile%.OST

On Windows Vista:
\users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\%profile%.OST

Hope that helps!
