Error when opening a project - Project Server 2003

Luis Arguello

Good afternoon. Some of the managers in my organization are getting the
following error when trying to open one of our projects from the Project
Professional 2003 client:

"An error occurred while trying to access Project Server.

This could be caused by the following:

- Low memory
- Some components might not be installed or registered properly on your
computer
- Some components might have become unstable

Try the following:

- Free up available memory by closing any programs, projects or windows you
are not using, and then try again
- Restart the computer"

I guess something is wrong with the project, since this is happening to
different managers (except myself, and I am the system administrator!)

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Luis,

Can you tell me where your staff gets these errors, when they open PWA? or
when they open Project Center?

There are a couple of reasons why this can happen:
- Security
- Active X

Also do you have any event log errors on the server?
thanks

Hello, Marc. Managers are getting this error when opening one of our
projects from the Project Professional 2003 client, after logging in using
their network accounts (the system security is managed through Active
Directory, as usual).

This doesn't happen with other projects...In fact, there are no problems to
see the project in the Project Center of PWA.

I checked on the application server log and the only thing unusual I see is
the following: "Microsoft Project Server Tracing Eventlog Provider".

The managers also get the following message on the Project Professional
client after trying to open this particular project:

"Your project doesn't appear to be registered with Project Server. Before
you can proceed, you need to publish project information to Project Server".

The strange thing is this project was published several months ago and no
manager has had any kind of problems accessing it before.

Thanks again!

HI Luis,

since this issue only occurs on one project, I suspect that the project
itself may be corrupt. In order to make this project work again you will need
to export it and re-import the project. This may resolves the issue.
Hope this helps
