error when opening excel

When I try to open Excel 200, I get the error message, " This program has
performed an illegal operation.... etc. Then my computer locks up. Can any
one help me?

Do a search for a file called *.xlb and then delete it. It's Excel's
toolbar customisation file and can get corrupted in XL2000. Reinstalling
has no effect as this file is not touched when you do that.
