Error when Publishing Forms

I am getting the following error message when trying to publish a form:
"Updating the content type failed."

Do have any suggestions on what could be causing this failure? I am
selecting many columns to publish (over 170). Is there a maximum number of
Columns that can be published that could be causing problems?

Yes there is a limitation on the number of clumns that can be shown based on
the data type of the fields
