Error When Sorting Inbox from Outlook 2007

When attempting to sort my inbox by any attribute other than "Received"
(e.g., From, Subject, etc.), an error message appears reading "The messaging
interface has returned an unknown error" and the preview panes clears. How
can I restore Outlook's sorting capabilities?

My problems have intensified ten-fold! The contents of my inbox have
vanished. Messages appear to still exist, but the only description in the
preview pane in the "Received" column reads "NONE." The Diagnostics offered
one solution, to purchase the software (I'm still running the trial version).
Please help! I need access to my Inbox--I'm paralyzed right now.

Change your view from Unread Messages to simple Messages.

This looks like an old issue - but, I encountered the exact same issu
recently too, using MS Outlook 2007.

1. For the issue regarding the display of "NONE" and other field
showing up blank, incidentally, a restart (apparently after a recent M
System update) worked for me.
2. For the issue about the error while trying to sort on the From o
Subject fields, I did notice, that this was happening only in the Inbo
folder. (a bit strange!)

I did try the Inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe as outlined her
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497), and it detected errors
Fortunately, it was also able to repair the errors for me, and when
restarted Outlook after that, things worked fine for me!

Oh, btw, I had setup my Exchange Account to deliver emails to a .ps
(rather, than the default .ost). No particular reason - just that I ha
been using PST ever since.
