Error When Trying to Create Shared Contacts

Exchange 2003. Outlook 2003.

I have three Exchange/Outlook clients who has "Publishing Editor" privileges
to a shared contacts folder in public folders. When they try to create a new
distribution list, the distribution list form comes up and they are able to
add people to the list and give the list a name, but when they try to save
the distributiuon list they get the following error:

The item could not be saved to this folder. The folder has been deleted or
moved, or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in
the default folder for the item?

They can save the DL to their personal contacts folder, but just not to the
shared folder.

Incidentally, I am able to create a DL in the shared public folder (I am an
administrator) without a problem. But this DL is only visible to me??
Remember, they have been given "Publishing Editor" permission to the shared
contacts. So I do not understand why we are having a problem, nor do I
understand why the DL I create is only visible to me??

As Russ Valentine suggested - this post would be better suited to the
Exchange newsgroup.

The Exchange groups are often a black hole into which questions are posted
and never receive an answer. I have posted both of these in the Exchange
Clients group to no avail.

I understand that there are times when a newsgroup post will not be
answered. In those cases you may need to try a support service that doesn't
rely of the goodwill of people helping others for free. Is there a capable
Exchange Server guru you use for technical support? Maybe it's time to pay
for some help from them.

I fixed the problem through trial and error. I am the Exchange guru, as we
cannot afford to pay anyone else (we are nonprofit). The good will of these
groups has worked well for me for years. It just seems that folks may waning
in their support of these newsgroups. I am one who for lack of money has
come to rely on these groups. I thank you for at least looking and
responding to my post.

Under the "Forms" tab of the properties of the shared folder (make sure you
are accessing the properties as the owner of the folder) I needed to select
"Any Form" under the section "Allow these forms in this folder." It was set
to allow just one specific form (which we designed for our contacts). Hence,
the form for a DL was not being allowed. Now it works! Thanks.
