error when trying to install Office Service Pack 1

I get an error that it can not update the file
PTA61.temp. I have tried renaming it, thinking it would
get recreated and that does not work. I am at a loss. How
do I apply the Office XP patch if it keeps bombing out?

Update:

I tried just downloading the update and installing it
that way. No go. I get an error now in PTA7.tmp

Come on Microsoft. Get it together! I will say Open
Office is starting to look better and better every day.
In fact, ITS FREE!
