Error while adding resource to Enterprise Resource Pool

Manas

Hi,

We have been using Project Server 2002 for the last 2 years. Yesterday when
we tried to add a new resource to the Enterprise Resource Pool, we are
getting message on "name or windows account". After we tried if we can modify
one of the existing resource, and it gives the same error. We are using
Windows Authentication.

Can you please guide me how to troubleshoot this? I am not able to add any
new resource or modify any existing one.

Thanks,

Manas

The fact that this is happening to an existing resource as well leads me to
believe that you're having a problem at the network or domain level. Are you
able to browse the domain from the server? Sometimes rebooting helps.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your reply. I did a restart of the project server but it did not
help. Do you want me to look anything on the database?

Thanks,

Manas

Can you verify that your Project Server machine is talking to your domain
controller? The error indicates that there's a either a conflict in the
database, which I assume you've eliminated, or your Project Server is not
able to resolve the windows logon. When things suddenly change, you should
ask what else changed in the environment that might be a cause.

Gary,

I suspect it would to be a conflict in the database. I restarted the server
and is able to lgin to the server. It is invokin the logon scripts. So, is
not doing a cached logon. Plus users are able to access PWA and also connect
through Project Pro and makes changes and publish projects. But not able to
make any changes to the Enterprise Resource Pool.

When I add a Enterprise Resource, what are the tables that it does inserts
on? Is it MSP_RESOURCES and MSP_CALENDARS and/or MSP_WEB_RESOURCES?

Also, on PWA --> Resources, every Resource has a "Unique Id". Is that Unique
Id = RES_UID on MSP_RESOURCES? What is RES_ID? Shouldn't RES_UID and RES_ID
remain same for a Resource on all projects? Also what is the Project with id
1?

Give me some insight so that I dig further in. Your valuable input would be
of great value to me.

Thanks,

Manas

My best advice is to fire up SQL profiler and look at what's going on when
you add a resource. This is also the best way to see what tables are updated
and in what order for any Project Server operation that you want to reverse
engineer.

Gary,

Sorry for being so late in replying. On trying to add the resource by trying
different options we found out that it was the RBS field that was causing the
error. We deleted the RBS and re-added from a backup of the Eneterprise
Global Template and found a work around to add the resource (We have the RBS
as a required field) whne we got this message "An invalid node name paramter
was specified". On doing research found that this could be due to our Project
Managers using MS Project 2002 Pro SP1 installed through Office Update while
the Project Server 2002 did not have SP1 installed. I installed SP1 on the
Project Server over the weekend and it solved the problem. We lost the RBS
information of all resources but could add them back from a hard copy. We are
now able to add or make changes to the Enterprise Resource Pool and the
problem is solved.

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Manas
