Erros connecting to MSP 2003 server and web access.

Hello, I seem to be having this problem quite regularly in my organization.
We are running a MS Project 2003 Server with Clients connecting both through
MSP web access and Project Pro 2003 the application.

The problem seems to just pop up for random users in our environment after
they have been successfully connecting for months.

The problem is this; A user tries to connect to the Project 2003 server with
Project the application and gets an error that they cannot connect due
security/permission issues on the Project server. They then try to connect
to Project web access where they are prompted for their username and
password. The user account is setup to use windows authentication so they
should not be prompted for username and password. Even if they go into
project server accounts and hit the test connection button they get a error
with security/permission on the Project server and do not get a successful
test connecting message. This had worked for months prior without issues.
If the user goes onto another machine and log's in with their NT
authenticated user account everything is fine.

The error specifically:

You are not authorized to view this page.

You do not have permissions to view this directory or page using the
credentials that you supplied.

*Rebuilding the users windows profile is the only thing to correct the
problem that I have found.

The only work around I have found is to rebuild the uses windows profile and
it seems to fix the problem on their machine.

This is now an issue because the user had this happen last year and was not
happy rebuilding their windows user profile. Needless to say they do not
want to rebuild it again for this problem.

I would also like to figure out how to fix this problem as it pops up 1 time
a month with our 5000+ users.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

Thanks you very much for the reply Scott.

I can try the suggestions in your Blog but it appears to me to be directly
related to the users machine? The user/s were connecting for months without
issues. Now they cant connect on thier machine but can on other peoples
machines. If the WINDOWS USER PROFILE is rebuilt on the trouble machine the
problem is resolved. But has now appeared again for this users one year
later. out of 5000 users this issue appears once to twice a month now. As I
mentioned the only workaround I have found is to rebuild the users WINDOWS
PROFILE reboot the machine, setup the connectin to the server again in MSP
accounts and all is good to go.

I can try your suggestions in the blog first thing tomorrow unless you have
another idea?

Thansk again in advance.

Jay,

This is a security issue on the server for the web pages. Please see my Blog
article with reference to the correct page settings for the server:

The user still appears to be having the problem. I have not rebuilt the
WINDOWS USER PROFILE yet for the user.
