Eudora local files import - query

N

Neal Reid

I've just moved a bunch of old mail from a 9.2.2 machine running
Eudora 5.2 to a Mac running Entourage 11.3.6. All went wonderfully
- except:

The (local) stored mail file structure from Eudora appears under
"Folders on My Computer/Eudora Import/Eudora Files" in Entourage.

I want to move all the local files "up" to "Folders on My
Computer" but can't find an easy way to move a folder structure
intact. I've spent quite a while poking at the MVP pages - but if
the info's there, it's indexed in a way which eludes me...

Simply drag the folders to where you want them located.

Another option is to create a new folder in "Folders on My Computer" then
select all messages from the old folder and use "Move to" to move the
messages.

If THAT worked, I'd never have asked. I can drag the inner folder
into ANOTHER folder, but apparently not out into the folder list
itself. Besides, that's not what (I thought) I asked to do.

Doesn't help. The folder list is already IN a folder. In Eudora I
had:
local folder 1
local folder 2
....
local folder N

In Entourage, I have
Folders on My Computer
Inbox
Drafts
...
Eudora Import
Eudora Folders
local folder 1
local folder 2
...

I want what I had in Eudora in Entourage. I.e. each local folder
as a subfolder of Folders on My Computer

Perhaps Entourage works a bit differently than Eudora, so our terminology is
making our communication more difficult.

You can drag the folders.

Drag the "local folder 1" to "On My Computer", It should then show up as
Folders on My Computer
Inbox
Drafts

If that's not the case, try to be as specific as possible on what you are
doing.[/QUOTE]

I quote from my original post:with the emphasis on ALL and EASY
The eudora system was used for some years by a somewhat OCD
person. There are LOTS of subfolders.

I KNOW I can drag them one at a time. There does not seem to be a
way to select multiples. I was hoping for a (now future) solution
if the case ever comes up again.

It gets REALLY boring clicking and dragging a bunch of folders 1
at a time...

I thought it was two folders you wanted to move. There is no easy way to
move it all. You could have used Import from another application and
selected Eudora and it would have moved everything over as you had it set
up.

Some days, I wonder if English is my first language. I DID EXACTLY
THAT. I thought I'd explained that using Entourage Import is how I
got where I was.

It imported everything fine - I expected it to get local folders
in a subfolder. I DIDN'T expect 2 folders. There appears no way in
the GUI to direct where imported mail goes.

On reflection, the transfer mechanism quite reasonably creates
"Eudora Imports" then places folders in that. Just as Entourage
has "Folders on My Computer", Eudora has Eudora Folders. It has to
have somewhere it "knows" to put stuff - but you'd think the guys
at MSFT might assume that, as they are importing to their own
product, they could check for a peer structure and use it if
extant rather than blindly creating a new one.

I'm surprised this isn't a common problem.

They don't even make it easy for switchers to import mail. I don't pretend
to understand all of the decisions Microsoft makes. We just try to
workaround and come up with solutions. said:

We don't see many Eudora users asking question. Either they don't need help
or they don't switch.
